Digging Worsley New Hall – A talk by archaeologist Dr Mike Nevell

Wednesday, April 6, 2016 - 19:00

The recent announcement of the new RHS Bridgewater garden on the site of Worsley New Hall has reignited interest in this former home of the Earls of Ellesmere. Built in the 1840s this imposing Gothic-style mansion with striking formal gardens played host to royalty on several occasions before being reduced to rubble just over 100 years later.

Between 2011 and 2014 Salford University and Peel Holdings carried out a joint project to research and promote the heritage of Worsley New Hall alongside an archaeological excavation on the site. Come along to our talk by Dr Mike Nevell, from the Centre of Applied Archaeology at Salford University, to find out more about the unique history of Worsley New Hall and some of the findings from the excavation of what remains.

This event takes place at Eccles Town Hall, Church Street, Eccles M30 0LH and is free but booking is essential at www.est1761.eventbrite.co.uk
