Bridgewater Weekender - Summer Saturday

Saturday, July 15, 2017 - 12:00 to 17:00

Duke's Drive, Monton (off Parrin Lane).

It’s back ! Explore the delights of Salford’s Bridgewater Canal as we celebrate the birthday of this much loved local waterway which opened 256 years ago. The Bridgewater Weekender is a free festival of family fun, entertainment, music, heritage and crafts. The celebration will take place at Duke's Drive this year and it will be our biggest and best yet.

Enjoy the great outdoors with den-building and bug-hunting. Have a go at some natural dyeing with City of Trees or do some planting with our friends from the Royal Horticultural Society. Step back in time with family-friendly heritage fun on the Duke’s Drive Discovery Trail or find out more about the Duke’s Amazing Animals. And any aspiring kings or queens can make themselves a mini-crown…

Look out for demonstrations of canal boat art, get those needles clicking with a knitting workshop or get creative with a bit of screen-printing..

As always we have exciting music lined up for you, with new faces Arctic Turn and Oh Man,The Mountain and back by popular demand we have Kora Collective, Magic Beans and bill-toppers Sling.

There will be tasty food and drink to buy on the meadow from Lakeland Picnic, Mio Pizza, Café Alfresco and Vincent’s Ice Creams.

If that isn’t enough, there are performances from Haywood Hix with ‘Works’ – their inventive shed load of ideas for amateur tinkerers and the mysterious Otto the Otter and Teddy the Fox will be wheeling their wooden cart through Duke’s Drive.

Round up the family, pack a picnic blanket and make an afternoon of it…

If you're still full of energy on Sunday why not experience the canal up close from a canoe with our free taster sessions for families at Worsley from 10am to 4pm?
